GATE 2026: Sample Paper, Previous Year Questions Released; Here's How To Download

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering 2026 sample paper, along with previous years' question papers for the new energy science sectional paper, has been published by the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati. The PYQs and sample papers can be accessed from the GATE official website, gate2026.iitg.ac.in.

GATE 2026: Exam dates

IIT Guwahati will host the GATE 2026 on February 7, 8, 14, and 15. The examination is for postgraduate admissions.

GATE 2026: How to download the sample paper and PYQs?

To view the sample paper and PYQs, candidates need to follow the steps mentioned below:

Step 1: Visit the official website of GATE at gate2026.iitg.ac.in.

Step 2: On the homepage, click on the download tab and then click on the "Question papers of previous years-bulk download of question papers (2007 to 2025)" or "Sample question paper for Energy Science (XE-1)-download sample question paper" link.

Step 3: After this, all the files will appear on the screen.

Step 4: Download the files and take a printout of the same for further reference.

Introduction of a new subject in the GATE 2026 session

The Indian Institute of Technology Guwahati has launched a new sectional paper under the engineering sciences (XE) subject for the GATE 2026 session. Aspirants will be able to select from eight optional papers throughout the application process.

What is GATE?

The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering (GATE) is a national-level test in India that tests undergraduate students' understanding of engineering, technology, architecture, and science. The Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs) and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) on a rotational basis. Many postgraduate programs, such as M.Tech, M.E., and Ph.D., use GATE scores to decide who gets in. They also use them to hire individuals for jobs in Public Sector Undertakings (PSUs). GATE is a computer-based test that checks the analytical, problem-solving, and technological skills. The scores are valid for three years.
