Delhi School Fee Hike: Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta on Tuesday addressed the rising concerns over alleged arbitrary fee hikes by private schools in the capital. Responding to mounting complaints from parents, Gupta asserted that the government would take strict action against any school found violating regulations.

“Parents have been meeting me with their grievances... that is for sure... no school has any right to harass parents and children. They have no right to threaten children and hike fees abnormally. There are rules and regulations (for fee hikes) which must be followed. If any school is found indulging in all these, then they will have to suffer. We will be issuing notices today to all those schools regarding which we have received complaints,” Rekha Gupta said, as reported by news agency PTI.

In a post on X (formerly Twitter), the Chief Minister reaffirmed her government’s stance on ensuring fairness in education. "Any form of injustice, exploitation and irregularity will be tackled with a zero tolerance policy. Our pledge is clear -- every child should get justice, respect and quality education," Gupta said.

The remarks come amid political tension, with the Opposition AAP alleging the BJP of siding with private institutions.

Last week, several parents of students enrolled at a private school in Dwarka staged a protest outside the campus, voicing their opposition to a recent fee hike introduced by the school.

Earlier, Arvind Kejriwal also criticised the new state leadership, stating that Delhi’s education system has “fallen into the clutches of mafias” following the alleged fee hikes under the BJP government.

Responding to the ongoing protests against fee hikes in private schools, Arvind Kejriwal took to X (formerly Twitter), stating, "The people of Delhi are once again completely at the mercy of the education mafia. How dare the education mafia mistreat our children? Because the leaders and ministers are in their pockets -- just like they used to be before our government came to power."
