Dehradun Schools Closed: All Dehradun district schools from Classes 1 to 12, as well as Anganwadi centers, will be closed today, August 12, due to a severe rainfall alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The closure, announced by district authorities, is applicable not only to students but also to teaching and non-teaching staff, including school management. The precautionary move comes as part of safety measures in anticipation of adverse weather conditions.

The district administration announced the closure on Monday, citing safety concerns amid the forecast of intense rain. “In view of the possibility of heavy rainfall issued by the Meteorological Department, Dehradun, a holiday has been declared for all schools from classes 1 to 12 as well as all Anganwadi centers in the Dehradun district for tomorrow, Tuesday, i.e., August 12. This order will apply not only to school students but also equally to school management and staff," the official notice stated.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rain and thunderstorms across parts of Himachal Pradesh and Uttarakhand from August 10 to 14.

IMD has issued a yellow and orange alert in various districts of Uttarakhand, predicting intense rain at isolated points. The impacted regions are Dehradun, Bageshwar, Tehri, Pauri, Rudraprayag, Uttarkashi, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, and Champawat. Residents are advised to remain vigilant and abide by official advisories throughout this time of increased weather activity.

Following a red alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD) for heavy rainfall, the Kedarnath Yatra has been suspended for three days. The district administration in Uttarakhand has been put on high alert and has used tight security measures to secure pilgrims and locals in the face of unfavorable weather.
