The AIIFA Sustainable Steel Manufacturers Association and the Indian Institute of Technology, Bombay (IITB) have singed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to transform steel production in India. The initiative is as per the Prime Minister's 'Make in India' and 'Atmanirbhar Bharat' vision of making world-class steel accessible to the world.

Mr. Yogesh Mandhani, AIIFA President said, "This association is not a short-term venture; it is the beginning of a long-term journey replete with possibilities. We are determined to set up new lines for sustainable, efficient, and world-class steel production through collaboration with India's top institutes."

According to the MoU, member industries will provide technical challenge and innovation requirements to IITB, and it will send subject expert academics and research groups to co-develop solutions, achieve technological leapfrogging, and enhance quality and safety standards in steelmaking. The collaboration will be crucial in making India realise its goal of producing 300 million tonnes of steel by 2030.

The two years it took to organise the partnership in action involved both parties going across various industrial venues to see things such as processes of manufacture, challenges, and possibilities. Excellent leadership was forthcoming from the Jalna Steel Cluster's Mr. Nitin Kabra, who along with other leadership in Wada Cluster, and SMAM made great things possible.
