AI Appreciation Day 2025: As we celebrate AI Day, one of the most important changes to highlight is the way artificial intelligence is transforming education. Schools that were slow to change in adopting new technology are now embracing generative AI throughout classrooms—not as a substitute for teachers, but as a collaborator in teaching, learning, and innovation.
The pandemic caused by COVID-19 was an educational turning point. It pushed the teachers and students into the online world overnight. For most teachers, this was a learning curve.
Mr. V.K. Kuriakose, Principal, ST. Thomas School, Indirapuram, looks back, "One of the blessings humanity received during Covid is online classes. Even the teachers who were almost on the verge of retirement had to learn how to operate computers, Zoom, Microsoft Teams… They had no option but to accept the change and the need of the hour."
He makes a comparison between this revolution and the present surge of AI in schools, “Similarly, the invasion of AI into classrooms and everyday lives is another revolution. It is going to be there everywhere like air whether you like it or not. It's not going to take away the job of teachers… but enrich it. Accept it with both hands like we did during the Covid.”

How Generative AI Is Being Used in Schools?
Future schools are already starting to incorporate AI resources into lesson planning, assessment, and classroom support. Generative AI can generate topic-specific quizzes, worksheets, presentations, and even customized explanations—allowing teachers to differentiate instruction for all learners.
Jimmy Ahuja, Head of STEM at Orchids The International School, points out how AI is building customized, adaptive learning experiences, “AI offers real-time support tailored to each student's pace and style… In subjects like coding and robotics, AI assists in debugging, logic building and experimentation, allowing students to learn and solve with greater independence.”
" AI-powered voice-to-text analysis tools to review and enhance classroom delivery. This helps teachers align with centrally developed lesson plans while receiving constructive and data-backed feedback. In coding classes, AI supports students with real-time assistance, making complex concepts easier to navigate. From content creation to personalized instruction and teacher development, AI is helping teachers create more impactful and efficient learning environments," he continues.
The school is also testing AI-based worksheet marking with OpenCV, assisting in saving time on grading while providing profound insights into students' grasp. Moreover, AI-driven voice-to-text analysis software is assisting teachers in aligning their teaching with core lesson plans and receiving constructive feedback.
Beyond Students: AI Upskilling for Teachers
AI is also taking a central role in teacher development. AI supports educators in refining their pedagogy, developing interactive content faster, and adapting their presentation based on classroom data. AI is not replacing teachers; it is optimizing them and enabling them to work more effectively towards what matters—engaging with students.
As teachers used to rely on younger colleagues and family members during the pandemic to discover the digital tools, they now embrace literacy with AI by learning at workshops and using smart assistants to stay in front.
