The defense ministry reported on Wednesday that within six days of the registration process's commencement, the Indian Air Force (IAF) had received more than two lakh applications under the Agnipath recruitment initiative. By Monday, 94,281 applications had been submitted for the registration procedure, which had started on June 24. By Sunday, 56,960 applications had been submitted.
The plan was presented on June 14, and after a week of violent protests against it shook numerous states, various opposition parties called for its repeal. Bharat Bhushan Babu, a spokesman for the defense ministry, stated on Twitter, "2,01,000+ aspirants have registered to become AgniveerVayu. Last date to get on board: July 5, 2022."
Earlier during the day, the IAF said on Twitter, "So far, 1,83,634 future Agniveers have applied on the registration website...Registration closes on July 5, 2022."
Youngsters between the ages of 17 and a half and 21 will be inducted under the Agnipath scheme for a four-year tenure, with 25% of them thereafter being inducted for regular duty. The government announced a number of appeasement measures, including a preference for Agniveers in central paramilitary forces and defence public sector undertakings upon their retirement, on June 16 after raising the upper age restriction for enlistment under the scheme from 21 to 23 for the year 2022.
The 'Agniveers,' as the soldiers enrolled under the Agnipath scheme will be termed, would also be given precedence in admission into state police forces, according to many BJP-ruled states. Armed forces have made it plain that anyone who participated in violent protests or burning in opposition to the new recruitment plan will not be admitted.
