New Delhi: Indian Railways is taking several steps to improve the travel experience for common passengers. In a big move, it has now decided to provide better hygiene facilities in sleeper coaches of long-distance trains. This will bring AC coach-like benefits to sleeper class passengers as well.
Liquid Handwash Dispensers Coming to Sleeper Class
Until now, only AC coaches had liquid soap dispensers near washbasins and toilets. But now, Indian Railways has announced that sleeper coaches in trains that have On Board Housekeeping Services (OBHS) will also have these dispensers. This will help passengers keep their hands clean during the journey.
OBHS Staff Will Maintain Cleanliness
The OBHS system includes staff who clean coaches and toilets while the train is running. Now, these staff members will also ensure that the liquid handwash dispensers in sleeper coaches are filled before the journey begins, and refilled during the journey if needed.
Official Instructions Sent to All Railway Zones
The Railway Board has already issued instructions to all zonal railways. In an official letter, it mentioned that trains with OBHS services must now have liquid soap dispensers installed in their sleeper coaches as well. This step is expected to improve hygiene standards significantly.

Types of Trains That Will Benefit
India runs different types of trains—premium ones like Rajdhani, Shatabdi, Vande Bharat, and Tejas, and regular mail/express and passenger trains. OBHS is mostly available in select mail and express trains. Now, passengers in sleeper class coaches of such trains will also get better hygiene facilities.
