December 2025 is the extended deadline to apply for the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (PMAY). For affordable housing support, this extension will give eligible urban and rural households additional time to register.
Income group, housing status, and social background are the determinants of eligibility for PMAY.
PMAY is the center's flagship housing scheme that aims to provide pucca homes to lower-income groups (LIG), economically weaker sections (EWS), and other disadvantaged communities in both urban and rural areas.
More than 92.61 lakh houses have been completed under the scheme so far, according to official data.

To qualify for PMAY-Urban (PMAY-U), applicants must not own a pucca house anywhere in India and they should fall under any of the following categories:
MIG-I: Annual income between 6 lakh and 9 lakh
Slum dwellers: Residents of informal settlements
EWS: Annual income up to 3 lakh
LIG: Annual income between 3 lakh and 6 lakh
Women from EWS and LIG groups, especially widows and those from SC, ST, OBC, and minority communities, can be included as beneficiaries. They can also include rickshaw pullers, street vendors, daily wage laborers, industrial workers, and migrant labourers.
For PMAY-Gramin (PMAY-G), priority is given to rural households identified in the Socio-Economic and Caste Census (SECC) that:
Do not own a house
Live in kutcha houses with up to two rooms
However, families that own pucca houses, vehicles, or mechanized farming equipment or have income or assets such as refrigerators, large landholdings, or taxable income are not eligible.
