Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman will present the Union Budget in the Lok Sabha on July 23. The Budget session, scheduled from July 22 to August 12, also marks the first budget presentation by the Narendra Modi-led government (Modi 3.0) since its re-election for a record third term earlier this year.

The President of India, Droupadi Murmu approved the proposal to convene both houses of Parliament during this period.

Earlier on July 23, Union Minister of Parliamentary Affairs of India Kiren Rijiju took to X (Formerly known as Twitter) and said, "Hon’ble President of India, on the recommendation of Government of India, has approved the proposal for summoning of both the Houses of Parliament for the Budget Session, 2024 from 22nd July, 2024 to 12 August, 2024 (Subject to exigencies of Parliamentary Business). Union Budget, 2024-25 will be presented in Lok Sabha on 23 July, 2024."

One of the major significance of this session is that it will also be the first budget of the BJP-led NDA government in its new term.

The BJP-led National Democratic Alliance secured a third consecutive term in the general elections.

Earlier this year, the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman presented an interim budget in Parliament on February 1. With this, she is set to become the first finance minister to present seven consecutive Union Budgets, surpassing Morarji Desai who presented six in a row.

Although, the union Budget of the country is presented on February 1 on each year but the due the Lok Sabha Election 2024, an interim budget was presented earlier.

And moreover an interim budget is a financial statement presented by the government during a transitional period, typically when a full budget cannot be presented due to reasons like upcoming elections or changes in government.
