New Delhi: The Ladli Scheme was launched in 2008 by the Delhi government to provide financial assistance to girls. But in recent years, the scheme has slowed down. This surprising fact came out through an RTI (Right to Information) reply. Let’s understand the full issue.

Number of Beneficiaries Going Down

In 2008–09, there were a total of 1,26,965 girls under the Ladli Scheme in Delhi. But by 2024–25, this number has fallen to 53,001, almost half.

In 2019–20, only 30,192 girls received benefits under the scheme.

According to the Department of Women and Child Development, from 2008 to 2025, a total of 13,52,564 girls registered under the Ladli Scheme in Delhi.

Fall in Numbers Since 2010

The number of beneficiaries has been falling every year since 2009–10.

Only in 2011–12, there was a slight increase of around 1,000 girls.

Even after 2020, this falling trend has continued.

Why the Numbers Are Falling

An official from the Department of Women and Child Development explained that the main reasons for this drop are:

- Girls dropping out of school

- Not renewing their registration

- Lack of proper information about the scheme

By January, around 1.86 lakh girls had not claimed the money they were eligible to receive.

Also, about 1.66 lakh girls either didn’t renew their registration or had left school.

What is the Delhi Ladli Scheme?

Under the Ladli Scheme, girls in Delhi receive financial aid of Rs 35,000 to Rs 36,000, given in installments. Once the girl turns 18, she can withdraw the total amount with interest.
