Mumbai: The last date to file your Income Tax Return (ITR) for the financial year 2024-25 is expected to be July 31, 2025. This is the standard deadline if you want to file without paying any late fees.

If you miss the July 31 deadline 2025, you can still file a belated return. However, there will be a late fee and possible penalties. This extended deadline is usually December 31, as seen in previous years.

When Can You Start Filing?

The Income Tax Department’s online portal is expected to open soon. Based on trends from earlier years, ITR forms are usually made available in April. Once the forms are notified, you can start e-filing your return online.

When Will You Get Refunds?

Most taxpayers receive refunds within 7 to 20 days after filing. This quick process happens only if:

- Your return is verified on time (using Aadhaar OTP or other methods)

- Your bank account is pre-validated and linked to your PAN

- There are no errors or mismatches in the return

Documents You Should Keep Ready

Before filing your return, it’s a good idea to collect these documents:

- PAN card and Aadhaar card

- Form 16 from your employer

- Salary slips

- Interest certificates from banks

- Capital gains statements (if any)

- Rental income and other sources of income

Having all these ready will make filing easier and help you get your refund faster.
