Mumbai: HDFC Bank has announced that its board will meet on Friday, July 19, 2025, to discuss some big decisions. One of the key items on the agenda is the possible issue of bonus shares and a special interim dividend for shareholders. This announcement gave a positive push to the bank’s shares, which rose by 1.33 percent to Rs 2,021.90 during early trading on the BSE.

What Is the Meeting About?

The bank had earlier stated that the board meeting was being held to approve the financial results for the April to June quarter of the financial year 2025-26. However, a regulatory filing on Wednesday added more important items to the list. Now, the board will also discuss:

- Issuing bonus shares (free additional shares to existing shareholders)

- Declaring a special interim dividend (a one-time cash reward for shareholders)

- Both actions will be subject to shareholder approval

What Has the Bank Said So Far?

HDFC Bank’s Managing Director & CEO Sashidhar Jagdishan, in a recent message to shareholders in the FY25 Annual Report, said that the bank is confident of performing well. He believes that HDFC Bank will grow its loans and advances in line with the industry this year, and even beat industry growth next year.

Strong Financial Performance

The bank has shown strong growth in the past year:

- Net profit rose by 10.7 percent to Rs 67,347.4 crore as of March 2025

- Total balance sheet went up by over 8 percent, reaching Rs 39.10 lakh crore

- This performance gives the bank confidence to reward its shareholders.

What Does This Mean for Investors?

If the board approves the bonus shares and special dividend, it will be a big benefit for investors. Bonus shares increase the number of shares held without extra cost, while special dividends mean extra income.
