Bihar, Manipur, & Chhatisgarh Report High Inflation Rates As November CPI Eases To 5.48%

Amongst the big Indian states, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhatisgarh ended November with a high inflation rate. Bihar had an inflation rate of 7.55 per cent. The state of Chhatisgarh had an inflation rate of 8.39 per cent.

The Consumer Price Index (CPI), which is a prominent measure of the rate of inflation, for the month of November produced some relieving numbers. The inflation rate dipped to 5.48 per cent. The lower than October's inflation rate of 6.21 per cent.

Manipur CPI Shoots To 10.12%

However, when we look at the numbers and the progress made by individual states, some reported concerning numbers. Amongst all states, the conflict-ridden Manipur reported the highest rate of inflation at a mammoth 10.12 per cent.

Amongst the big Indian states, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, and Chhatisgarh ended November with a high inflation rate. Bihar had an inflation rate of 7.55 per cent. The state of Chhatisgarh had an inflation rate of 8.39 per cent.

Uttar Pradesh, which is one of the biggest economies in India had an inflation rate of 6.56 per cent.

Inflation In Southern States

When we look at the southern states, Kerala once again reported the highest rate of inflation among the 5 states. The Malayalam-speaking state reported a high inflation rate of 6.32, higher than the national average.

Tamil Nadu had an inflation of 5 per cent in the penultimate month of the year. Karnataka had a rate of 5.07 per cent. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh had an ROI of 5.02 per cent. The newest Indian state, Telangana had the lowest inflation rate at 4.24 per cent.

Maharashtra, the richest state in the country reported the inflation rate of 4.81 per cent, which is lower than the national average.

National Inflationa Rate Dips

When we look at the overall inflation rate, the urban inflation rate dipped to 4.83 per cent, from the previous month's 5.62 per cent. The rural consumer price index remained higher than the urban number at 5.95 per cent.

These numbers are in line with RBI estimations of a high inflation rate in the coming months due to various factors. The rate of inflation of 5.48 per cent is higher than the central bank's threshold of 4 per cent.

In addition, in th period between November 1 and November 30, the value of the Indian currency dipped from Rs 84.13 for a US Dollar to Rs 84.55 for a US Dollar.
