Apple may be looking to buy Perplexity AI. The chatbot, known for its conversational AI search engine, was recently valued at $14 billion. A latest report by Mark Gurman suggests that top executives of both the companies have met multiple times and Apple is closely observing the AI platform. The talks are still in its early stages and both the companies have refused to confirm any development.
Bloomberg’s Gurman sites internal sources to claim that Apple’s M&A head Adrian Perica, Services Chief Eddy Cue, and other key AI leaders have held early-stage discussions with Perplexity leadership in the recent months. Apple has reportedly made no formal offer yet.
Apple’s interest in this partnership is conducive, given the AI boom globally, and the tech giant is already playing catch up in the scenario. Apple’s iOS 26 was largely criticised for having very few AI-centric features. The report says that Samsung may also be pursuing Perplexity AI, and Apple may lose the battle with very few options at hand.
Apple may also look at a partnership with Perplexity AI, if the acquisition deal does not go through. The tech giant could look at the AI platform to power Siri and integrate it into Safari as an alternate search engine.
With AI now creeping into almost all tech products out there, it will be interesting to see which company leads from the top, and which follows the footsteps of others. In its latest feature update, Perplexity AI has now gained the ability to generate short eight second video clips with sound and dialogue as well.
