Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The School Education Department has decided to install additional lights in classrooms in government schools to prevent students from struggling in low-light conditions during the harsh winter season.

Due to the biting cold, windows in classrooms are often closed, causing a drastic reduction in natural light. With only one light in each classroom, students have struggled to see properly, leading to discomfort and eye strain.

In a video conferencing meeting held recently, School Education Secretary Sanjay Goyal issued clear instructions to officials, emphasizing that by the end of the month, a minimum of three lights should be installed in each classroom to ensure students do not face the discomfort of darkness when schools reopen in January.

He has directed the officials to purchase LED lights from the market, with all installation costs to be covered by the schools themselves. The department will subsequently allocate funds based on detailed reports submitted by the schools.

In his directive, Goyal emphasized the urgency of the matter, stating that schools should handle the installation of lights and wiring independently without waiting for the often time-consuming procedures involving the Public Works Department (PWD).

"I have seen firsthand how children suffer during severe cold – not only due to inadequate woollen clothes but also because of the insufficient lighting that strains their eyes. I want to ensure that government schools are fully equipped with proper lighting to create a comfortable learning environment."
