Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): PCC chief Jitu Patwari on Monday said that he would resign from his post if the charges mentioned in the FIR against him are proven.
“I will step down from the post of state president if there is even a shred of truth in the allegations against me,” Patwari told media persons here on Monday.
Recently, Mungawali police in Ashoknagar district registered a case against Patwari for allegedly circulating a fake message on social media, claiming that a youth was "forced to eat human waste."
The police had claimed the faeces-feeding allegation was wrong and had booked Patwari for trying to spread animosity in society, instigating fights between castes and disrupting peace by sharing a video related to the youth on social media.
“If anyone can prove that I held separate discussions with the two brothers and then lured them into making the faeces-feeding allegation in exchange for a bike, I am ready to resign as state president of Congress,” the PCC chief said.
Congress MLA Jaivardhan Singh claimed that the FIR against Patwari is based on fabricated facts. He stated that the news report of the two brothers being ‘forced to eat the human waste’ was published and the accused of the case have been charged under 151 of CrPC and sent to jail.
Cong protests FIR on Patwari in Indore
City Congress workers held a protest in front of Divisional Commissioner’s office on Monday opposing the FIR registered against Madhya Pradesh Congress president Jitu Patwari in Ashoknagar.
Hundreds of workers carrying party flags and banners shouted slogans and demanded the withdrawal of what they termed a false case meant to silence the opposition.
Leading the protest, city Congress president Surjeet Singh Chaddha and district in-charge, former Khargone MLA Ravi Joshi, strongly criticised the ruling BJP government.
Chaddha said while addressing the crowd, “Our president is representing a constructive opposition, yet false cases are being filed against him. Even here in Indore, our corportor sand Leader of Opposition are being targeted. Congress ruled for 40 years but never indulged in such vindictive politics.”
Party leaders alleged the FIR was lodged under pressure from the state government after Patwari highlighted the case of an Adivasi youth in Ashoknagar’s Mundla village, which later turned controversial when the victim denied the incident in an affidavit.
