Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): After being released into the open forest range recently, both Cheetahs Agni and Vayu are showing inquisitive behaviour in exploring the wild areas of Kuno National Park. Seeing this, Kuno officials are hopeful that they will shortly get adjusted to the wild conditions and will be able to survive on their own.

Interacting with the Free Press, District Forest Officer of Kuno, Thirukural said that both Cheetahs are moving in forest areas in good shape. A monitoring team is tracking all their activities closely.

Agni and Vayu's excitment when set free:

Next batch of Cheetahs to be set free sooner

In the meantime, sources from Kuno said that the next batch of Cheetahs could be released into open forest range any time soon. All the necessary preparations have been done in advance to release more cheetahs in wild conditions. On getting the order, the next batch of Cheetah will be released into open forest range.

Other than Agni and Vayu, there are ten more adult cheetahs inside the enclosures. Some female cheetahs are rearing their cubs and hence they are unlikely to be released into wild conditions. Notably, there are 12 adult cheetahs and 12 cubs in Kuno.

Total 20 adult cheetahs were brought to Kuno from Namibia and South Africa two years back. Of them, eight perished by the passage of time.
