A four-year-old Uttar Pradesh native underwent ‘Foley catheter’ technique surgery at the civil hospital in Satna district after he accidentally swallowed Rs 5 coin while playing at his home days ago.
The parents of kid spent three days visiting several nursing homes in Karvi town and in Banda city of Uttar Pradesh before finally finding relief at Satna district hospital in Madhya Pradesh.
The boy named Aryan Saket got the coin stuck in the upper part of the esophagus or the food pipe that carries food from throat to stomach accidentally. Due to the obstruction he was in immense pain and vomited every time he tried to eat anything.
The parents got to know about the coin through an X-ray done at a nursing home and after visiting several doctors, came to Satna. Here Dr Sunil Karkhur, a local Pediatrician immediately attended the child.
Karkhur said, “The boy was in extreme discomfort due to the coin. Any further delay in extracting the object could have led to possible life-threatening conditions such as infection or ruptured food pipe.”

After taking all necessary precautions, the team including Dr Sanjeev Prajapati and nursing staff Sunena Rajak and Sandeep Patel and with the help of ‘Foley catheter’ technique successfully extracted the coin in no time.
The boy was kept under observation for some time and once he could eat normally and showed no discomfort anymore. He was discharged on Sunday.
