Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Gynaecologist Dr Rachna Dubey, state nodal officer and in-charge, said that the Madhya Pradesh government is going to start a state-level Preventive Gynaecology Centre at Kailash Nath Katju Hospital to redress all health issues of women.
Even women over 50, who often don’t get proper healthcare, will be provided diagnosis, she said. Free Press talked to Dr Rachna Dubey on various women’s health issues. Excerpts:
Women develop many health issues but don’t get a good platform for regular check-ups. What’s being done?
The Madhya Pradesh government is set to open a state-of-the-art Preventive Gynaecology Centre at Kailash Nath Katju Hospital within a month. It’s the first in the state and focuses on women’s health diagnosis.
Preventive gynaecology care is about proactive measures to maintain and improve women’s reproductive health, like infertility, through regular check-ups, screenings and lifestyle guidance.
It aims to detect potential health issues early and promote overall well-being. We have all machines ready. Women over 50 face many health problems, and all these will be diagnosed at this centre.

Polycystic Ovary Syndrome is very common in young girls and affects their ability to conceive. What are the preventive measures?
At reproductive age, about 36% of young girls suffer from PCOS. They should avoid plastic-packed food because preservatives extend shelf life up to a year. Many plastics, especially those with BPA (bisphenol A), release endocrine-disrupting chemicals (EDCs) into food and drinks, especially when heated or in contact with acidic or oily substances.
Exposure to these chemicals may contribute to PCOS. Young girls and women should avoid food, tea in microplastic packaging, silver foil, and polythene, as these materials are found in high levels in girls suffering from PCOS.
What are other reasons for PCOS?
PCOS is a lifestyle disease. Earlier, girls were physically active at home, but now many work in corporate jobs with night shifts. Prolonged laptop use leads to obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes at a young age, and all these factors contribute to PCOS during the reproductive age. Timely treatment and regular exercise are the best ways to overcome this problem.
Can a girl suffering from PCOS lead a normal life and conceive?
PCOS is treatable. But initially, girls often don’t know about this disease and search social media when they don’t conceive. They then approach IVF or other methods, but by then the condition is complicated and advanced. It is treatable and women should not panic.
