Morena (Madhya Pradesh): Panic spread across three villages in Kailaras area on Tuesday after a stray dog attacked and injured more than two dozen people, including children and a pregnant woman.

The attacks occurred in the morning, with the dog biting anyone in its path. Several victims, including children, sustained serious injuries.

Most of the injured were treated at Kailaras Health Centre and the severely injured were referred to district hospital. Three to four individuals were left heavily bleeding after the attack and many sustained deep wounds to their faces, arms, legs, and other parts of their bodies.

The villages affected are Rijhoni, Brahmabjana and Sarasbai Pura. Among the seriously injured, Meena Kushwaha, an Anganwadi worker, was shifted to Morena due to her critical condition, alongside Manisha Kushwaha, a pregnant woman.

The dog also attacked several children and others in the vicinity. Local officials, including BMO Dr SR Mishra and tehsildar Vishram Singh Baghel, quickly arrived at the health facility to assess the situation.

Mishra said that all victims were treated and vaccinated, with some referred to the district hospital due to complications.

This incident echoes a similar attack two months ago in Sujangarhi, raising concerns about increasing stray dog menace in the area.

The incident has heightened fear among residents, especially parents, who are concerned for the safety of their children. Local authorities have faced increasing calls to address the growing number of stray dogs.

Health experts emphasised immediate treatment after animal bites, especially from stray dogs and wild animals like monkeys. They stressed that those bitten should receive anti-rabies vaccines (ARV) and necessary medical care within 72 hours to prevent severe health risks.

Doctors urge residents not to take dog bites lightly and to seek prompt medical attention.
