Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): Two men posing as police officers were caught extorting money from drivers in Gwalior on Wednesday. These so called 'cops' allegedly stopped passing by cars, threatened them and demanded money, and then vandalised the vehicle before letting them go. The incident took place on Wednesday night.

As soon as the police were informed about the ordeal, they reached the spot and apprehended two out of the three accused. Two separate FIRs have been filed against both, and the hunt for the third member is underway.

According to information, the incident took place late at night when three fake cops, riding a Bullet motorcycle, stopped a loading vehicle near Racecourse Road in the Gola Ka Mandir police station area. They introduced themselves as police officers and demanded documents from the driver, Rajesh Shakya, who was heading towards Maharaj Bada. When he complied, they accused him of entering the city late at night and threatened to take him to the police station.

As the driver agreed to go, the accused started abusing and assaulting him. They also smashed the vehicle’s windscreen and side mirrors before fleeing. The driver immediately called the police helpline.

Police Acts Promptly

Acting swiftly, the police took the driver along and began searching for the accused. They soon found them near LNIP College, stopping another mini-truck and misbehaving with the driver. As the police surrounded them, one of the accused, Saurabh Gaur, managed to escape, while the other two, residents of Kailaras, Morena, were arrested. Two separate FIRs have been registered, and a search is ongoing for the third suspect.
