Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The monsoon session at Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly commenced with Congress protest on Monday. The opposition MLAs held demonstration in front of the Gandhi statue, holding a ‘toy chameleon’, accusing government of changing colours on the OBC reservation.

The protestors arrived holding placards and raising slogans, alleging that the government is unwilling to grant 27% reservation to the Other Backward Classes (OBCs).

The Congressmen along with Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar said the government keeps ‘changing its stance like a chameleon.’

“Whenever the Supreme Court questions about the government's stance on the OBC reservation, the government does not reply, but when the elections come the Party starts creating confusion over the issue and tries to sabotage the votes”, Singhar  alleged.

He further said, "Chameleons are known for being able to change colour but the BJP seems to changing their colours even more than the chameleon. They do not meet the people’s expectations and trust. They are spending crores of rupees to stop the reservation for OBCs."

He added that because the government keeps on changing its stance on the issue, Congress had opted to use a toy chameleon which allegedly represents the state government.

The monsoon session which started on Monday (July 28) will continue till August 8.

Earlier the speaker had imposed a ban on demonstration and raising slogans in the assembly, but the Congress MLAs did not pay attention to the instructions and carried out the demonstration.

During the session, Speaker Narendra Singh Tomar, Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, and Leader of Opposition Umang Singhar paid tributes to former MLAs Raja Surendra Bahadur Singh, Raghunath Chaudhary, Shankar Lal Munnakhedi, Sardar Sukhdev Singh, former Union Minister Dr. Girija Vyas, former Gujarat Chief Minister Vijay Kumar Rupani, film actor Manoj Kumar, and folk artist Ramsahay Pandey.
