Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The Special Court Bhopal has sentenced five people including the wife of Sage group director to three years imprisonment in a land fraud case. The court, in its order passed on December 6, also slapped a fine of Rs 8000 each. All the convicts have been released on bail.

In 1995, Ashok Sharma, resident of village Bakniya had taken a loan of Rs 29,000 from the cooperative bank to purchase a motor pump. The man had to mortgage his land measuring 4.92 acer against the loan. As Sharma failed to repay the loan amount, in 2007 the bank officials hatched a conspiracy and sold off the land for Rs 1.50 lakh; the actual cost of which was Rs 3.98 lakh.
It was alleged that the cooperative bank officials fabricated the note sheet and sent it to the joint registrar for the auction. The registrar did not check the documents and gave a go ahead for the auction. Sharma approached Lokayukta Bhopal and filed a complaint. During the investigations, it came to fore that the five persons had hatched a conspiracy to cheat the farmer.
