Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Eight districts of Madhya Pradesh, including Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Satna, Rewa, Maihar, Mauganj, Sidhi, and Singrauli woke up to a dense fog on Thursday morning.

Cloudy skies were witnessed in Raisen, while Sheopur experienced 15 minutes of rainfall. This has intensified the cold waves causing temperatures to drop, with the minimum temperature recorded at 10°C.

Weather expected on Thursday

Light rainfall is expected in Gwalior, Morena, Sheopur, Bhind, and Datia. Foggy conditions will prevail in Niwari, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Satna, Rewa, Maihar, Mauganj, Sidhi, and Singrauli on Thursday.

What do meteorologists say?

According to IMD Bhopal’s weather expert Prakash Dhamle, the Northern part of Madhya Pradesh is being affected by the Western Disturbance. The system will persist for two days. After it passes, cold conditions will return from January 17.

The Meteorological Department has predicted that another Western Disturbance will become active from January 18. This will affect the Western Himalayas. This will bring icy winds to Madhya Pradesh, increasing the chill across the state. Notably, jet stream winds were recorded at a speed of 287 km/h on Wednesday.

Weather expected in coming days

January 17: Foggy weather will persist in Gwalior, Morena, Bhind, Shivpuri, Niwari, Tikamgarh, and Chhatarpur.

January 18: The weather will clear, but fog will be present in the morning.

Temperatures so far

On Wednesday, Madhya Pradesh experienced three varying weather conditions: rain, daytime cold, and morning fog. 

Temperatures recorded during the day were as follows: 

25.8°C in Bhopal, 23.1°C in Gwalior, 27.5°C in Ujjain, and 27°C in Indore. Night temperatures increased in many areas, while early mornings were foggy.

Tikamgarh recorded a temperature of 19°C, Rewa 17.8°C, and Khajuraho 19.4°C.

Rain is also common in January, with precipitation recorded in 7 out of the past 10 years. The highest single-day rainfall of 2 inches occurred on January 6, 2004, while the highest monthly rainfall was 3.8 inches in January 1948.
