Bhopal / Indore (Madhya Pradesh): The Enforcement Directorate (ED) conducted raids at several locations in Madhya Pradesh linked to accused liquor contractors Yogendra Jaiswal and Vijay Shrivastava over irregularities worth Rs 71 crore.
The raids were executed in Bhopal, Indore, Rewa, and Mandsaur, all together on Monday.
The action is linked to a case involving Fake Challan Scam (2014-2017) related to the Excise Department.
Bhopal
Initially, reports suggested that Deputy Commissioner of the Excise Flying Squad, Alok Khare’s premises were being searched in Bhopal. However, ED sources later clarified that no action was taken against Khare.
Indore
In Indore, ED teams raided 18 different locations connected to various liquor traders including Avinash and Vijay Srivastava, Rakesh Jaiswal, Yogendra Jaiswal, Rahul Chouksey, Suryaprakash Arora, Gopal Shivhare, Lavkush, and Pradeep Jaiswal were targeted.
ED teams reached areas like Basant Vihar Colony, Tulsi Nagar, and Mahalaxmi Nagar for the operations.
Raids were also conducted in Jabalpur and Mandsaur. So far, ED has not officially released a statement about the raids.
The case dates back to 2014-2017, when irregularities were found in 194 bank challans for lifting liquor from government warehouses.
What was the matter?
The accused allegedly inflated small bank challans into large amounts, collected more liquor than allowed, and sold it through their government-approved liquor shops. Following complaints, the ED started investigating the case in 2024.
