Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): An MoU was signed between the Rekhi Foundation of Happiness and AIIMS Bhopal’s Centre of Happiness, paving the way for academic collaboration to deepen the scientific understanding and applications of happiness in healthcare settings.

AIIMS Bhopal continues to promote holistic well-being through innovative initiatives. One such pioneering step has been the establishment of the Centre of Happiness at AIIMS Bhopal, which was inaugurated on August 4, 2023. A course for the MBBS batch of August 2023 was introduced, sensitizing new students to the importance of happiness in personal and professional life.
A unique and engaging event titled “Have the Courage to be Happy – The Theatre of the Oppressed” was also conducted for students. Through body language and expression-based communication, students learned how participatory theatre can be used globally to address emotional, social, and interpersonal issues—encouraging self-reflection and personal growth. In its outreach efforts, the Centre organized special happiness sessions for children with cancer and their caregivers, as well as for breast cancer survivors.

Dr. Satinder Singh Rekhi, Chairman of the Rekhi Centre of Excellence for the Science of Happiness at IIT Kharagpur, delivered a talk on “Who’s Running Your Life – You or Your Monkey Brain?” focusing on how emotional intelligence and positive thinking influence daily actions, professional efficiency, and overall well-being.
AIIMS Director Dr. Ajai Singh said, “Doctors, medical students, and paramedics often function under extreme stress. A scientific understanding of happiness equips them with tools to build inner strength, remain optimistic, and develop a deeper appreciation of life and their roles in healthcare. This initiative is not just timely, but essential.”
