Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): North Central Railway is all set to start MEMU train service up to Sabalgarh by August this year as part of the Gwalior-Sheopur broad gauge railway project.

At present, the train runs only up to Kailaras, while track laying and station construction beyond that point are in the final stages.

Officials from the Prayagraj headquarters recently inspected the route. Now, the final inspection will be done by the Railway Safety Commissioner (CRS).

Once approved, MEMU trains will start running up to Sabalgarh. Electrification work on this section is also in progress and is expected to be completed by the end of July.

The complete Gwalior-Sheopur broad gauge line was initially scheduled to be finished by December 2025. However, the target has now been extended to December 2026. The track construction up to Virpur is planned to be completed by August 2025, after which train services are expected to start.

A review meeting was recently held with Gwalior’s Deputy Chief Engineer Akash Yadav and the construction agency officials, where instructions were given to speed up the work. Land acquisition for the railway track and revaluation of building compensation are also underway.

Sabalgarh is about 70 km from Morena. Currently, passengers spend ₹50–70 and more time traveling to Joura and Morena. The MEMU train service will make the journey cheaper and quicker.

Under this project, eight new railway stations will be built along with bridges and culverts. The new stations will be: Veerpur, Shyampur, Ikdori, Tarrakala, Sironi Road, Khojipura, Durgapuri, Girdhpur, and Sheopur.
