Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In the last one year, not a single In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) treatment has been conducted in government hospitals across Madhya Pradesh. According to IVF medical experts, the state, which earlier reported around 100 IVF cases a month, has now seen the number drop to zero.
This sharp decline followed the removal of IVF from the Ayushman Bharat Yojana in the state. As a result, patients are now required to bear the full cost of IVF treatment, leading to a complete halt in government hospital cases.
A plan was initiated a couple of years ago to open IVF centres in government medical colleges in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur. However, no concrete steps have been taken so far.
Dr Ranvir Singh, member of the State Surrogacy Board, said, “From the last one year, no IVF case has been reported in government hospitals. Earlier, IVF was included under Ayushman Yojana and around 100 monthly cases were recorded.
After its removal, the number has dropped to zero. Since 40% of the Ayushman scheme is state-funded, MP government had earlier included IVF treatment under it.”
He said, “Secondly, an initiative was taken to start IVF centres in government medical colleges in Bhopal, Indore, Gwalior and Jabalpur, but no progress has been made.”
New project soon
Neeraj Kumar Singh, Additional Secretary of Health, told Free Press, “The state government is bringing out a project, and several aspects will be considered in it. Once the project is finalised, the situation regarding IVF centres in medical colleges will become clear.”
