Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Focusing on strengthening internal security amid the escalating conflict with Pakistan, police will launch a probe to identify individuals who may be working as sleeper cells for the enemy.
It is suspected that such sleeper cells may be used for creating internal disturbance and causing unrest as the country is engaged on the frontline. Police will also ensure to diffuse tension among different communities and will keep a strict eye on persons with past records of inciting hatred and disturbing harmony.
Moreover, police are also focusing on developing an internal communication system to coordinate with other departments and teams for quick response in case of disaster or untoward situation.
The state DGP Kailash Makwana on Friday held a video conferencing with top officials and discussed the key points for ensuring peace and security. Police commissioner Harinarayanachari Mishra said inter-departmental coordination between different departments would be strengthened. Joint drills of police, district administration and municipal corporation, health, SDRF and NDRF will be conducted to ensure a quick response in case of any emergency situation.
Besides, Nagrik Suraksha Samiti, NCC and NSS cadets will be roped in for traffic control and other tasks. Police will ensure security arrangements at key government establishments and will raise awareness among people to follow protocols. Number of CCTV cameras will be increased and their monitoring will be enhanced for identifying suspicious persons and objects, he added.
Police officials said over 30 checkpoints had been set up at strategic points across the city to check vehicles.
Terror modules busted earlier
It is worth mentioning that Anti Terrorist Squad (ATS) had earlier arrested SIMI (student Islamic Movement of India) activists and had busted terror modules in other districts of Madhya Pradesh. In 2011: ATS arrested eight SIMI operatives who were linked to terror activities.
November 2016: Eight SIMI operatives fled the high-security Bhopal Central Jail but were gunned down near Acharpura.
July 2024: ATS arrested Faizan Sheikh from Khandwa. It came to fore that Faizan was influenced by the ideologies of ISIS and Indian Mujahideen.

1,000 whistles
Besides upgrading the air raid siren system, 1,000 whistles will be given to members of Nagrik Suraksha Samiti. In case of an emergency situation, whistles will be used to alert people in areas where sound of siren is not audible.
Social media monitored
Police officials said that social media platforms were being strictly monitored. Any attempt to spread rumours or fake information will be dealt with strictly. Moreover, flying drones by private individuals has been restricted.
