Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Top among all the horses of Madhya Pradesh police, Pegasus will lead the team of 17 mounts that will be part of Republic Day Parade on January 26. Serving the police force for the last nine years, Pegasus (named after a one-winged horse in Greek mythology) is the smartest one that MP police has in its stable and has shown its talent in 12 parades successfully.
Dipesh Singh, a rider of mounted police, said 26 horses would be part of Republic Day parade where they would show their skills in dressage and other drills. Pegasus mounted by parade commander inspector Rakesh Kumar Gaud will lead 17 horses with their riders that will perform parade and drills on the ground.
Moreover, nine horses will be led by horse Raj mounted by parade commander Ugam Singh Rathore. He will follow the Governor to the dais on Republic Day. At present, 19 horses are part of the mounted police of Bhopal. Fifteen horses including Raj have come for the parade from 2nd battalion Gwalior, 6th battalion Jabalpur and 1st battalion Indore. The 19 horses with Bhopal police include 6 mares. Among them, mare Uttama and horse Naresh are the senior most and above 28 years of age.
Outstanding capabilities
Tall, beautiful and agile, chestnut coloured Pegasus has outstanding capabilities. Inspector Rakesh Kumar Gaud said Pegasus, 15, has a sharp memory and reacts to commands much faster than other horses. Pegasus, the largest among all horses loves drills and dressage. A thoroughbred, Pegasus is the favourite mount of senior police officials for parades and during other functions.
Of Sheeba & Shakti
Sheeba, Kanchan, Rakhi, Bijli, Aru, Faj, Vikral and Shakti among other horses and mares are part of the mounted police of Bhopal. Besides regular drills and exercises, they are given multivitamins and jaggery especially in winters to keep them in good health.

Full Dress Rehearsal Held
Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A full dress rehearsal was held on Lal Parade Ground on Friday ahead of the final parade and events to be held on Republic Day on Sunday in presence of Governor Mangubhai Patel who will be the chief guest. DGP Kailash Makwana inspected the full dress rehearsal in which head constable Ramchandra Singh Kushwaha acted as the chief guest.
Police band played the music of national anthem amid celebratory firing following which a joint parade headed by 2022 batch IPS officer Karandeep Singh was held. SP Atul Kumar Soni acted as parade second in command of the joint parade which had 20 battalions including Chhattisgarh Armed Forces, Mounted Police and Dog Squads.
