Sehore (Madhya Pradesh): The Sehore police on Tuesday claimed to have worked out a theft case in which burglars escaped with cash and ornaments worth over Rs 34 lakh nearly four days ago. Superintendent of police Deepak Kumar Shukla said the stolen cash and ornaments had been recovered and four burglars, including two minors, arrested.
According to a complaint lodged by a resident of Rehti Nandkishore Sisodia, a band of burglars entered his house, and made off with cash and silver ornaments worth over Rs 34 lakh. Sidodia deals in cement and iron rods. In the complaint, he said that he and his family members had gone to attend a wedding ceremony.
In their absence, the thieves broke open the main gate and entered the house. After the complaint, sub-divisional officer of police in Budhni, Ravi Sharma, rushed to the spot and inspected the place and set up two teams to search for the thieves.
On the grounds of evidence, the police took a person identified as Mahendra Mehta into custody and quizzed him. He confessed to having committed the crime with three persons, including two minors. His accomplice was identified as Deepak Malviya. The police also seized a motorcycle and a hammer that was used to break the gate, from their possession.
Jail term for 38 in 27-year-old forgery case
Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) Archana Naidu has awarded jail term to 39 people in a 27-year-old forgery case. One of the accused was so ill that he was sent to hospital. So, 38 of them have been sent to jail. Nine people died during the hearing of the case.
Most of the culprits have become very old. According to reports, a sum of Rs 72 lakh was withdrawn by using forged documents in the cooperative banks in Sehore, Shajapur and Rajgarh districts in 1988. The money, withdrawn by using forged certificates, was related to insurance claim.
Some people holding responsible positions in cooperative banks withdrew money from insurance claim amount by submitting forged death certificates. A complaint was lodged at the former Sarangpur police station. Another complaint was sent to EOW. The probe agency examined 1485 passbooks. LIC and Central Bank were made nodal agencies, official sources said.
