Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Five cases have been registered against key accused Farhan in connection with the alleged college campus rape and blackmail case, which police have also linked to suspected 'love jihad'. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) had earlier indicated that bigger names may be arrested in this case.
According to police, charges against Farhan span multiple police stations in Bhopal. These include a POCSO case registered at Bagsewania police station, an attempt to murder case under Section 307 of the IPC at Ratibad, and rape cases filed at Ashoka Garden and Jahangirabad police stations.
Defence counsel advocate Jagdish Gupta has raised serious questions over the police investigation and filing of challan by Bagsewania police. He said that the girl, who is based in Indore, informed Bhopal police that the accused raped her at her Indore residence.
"If she was raped in Indore, why was the FIR registered in Bhopal and not there?" Gupta questioned. He argued that the FIR should have been filed in Indore as per jurisdictional norms. However, the victim is a resident of Saket Nagar, which falls under Bagsewania police station limits in Bhopal.
Gupta alleged that the police have not submitted a complete investigation report. “One thing is clear—if the incident occurred in Indore, the complaint should have been filed there,” he said.
The case unfolded after the victim lodged a complaint in Bhopal on April 11, following a halt in communication by Farhan. Initially, he was booked under Section 151 of the IPC. The very next day, a POCSO case was registered against him.
Farhan is reportedly an MBA graduate and runs a pre-owned car business.
