Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Officials of the Enforcement Directorate (ED) have been questioning former Transport Department constable Saurabh Sharma and his aides Chetan Singh Gaur and Sharad Jaiswal since being granted their six-day remand which will last till February 17.

The three were arrested under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) this Monday. Sources claimed that ED officials are interrogating them over the documents seized during raids.

The trio is being asked to divulge the source of the money and also those who helped them build their alleged empire. Sources also said the men will be taken to the places where the Lokayukta, the Income Tax department and the ED made seizures worth around Rs 100 crore, excluding the property and other assets. The valuation of the property is underway, they said.

‘Phishing enquiry’

The ED may conduct a ‘phishing enquiry’ into the ongoing investigations. The officials may call those people who were in regular touch with the three during their ‘business time’.  Those on the contact list of the trio will be called to the ED office to record their statements. They may also be added as co-accused if the agency suspects their involvement in the case.

Trio taken for medical check-up

ED officials took Saurabh Sharma, Chetan Singh Gaur and Sharad Jaiswal to JP hospital here for medical health checkup on Wednesday. This was in compliance with the special court instructions which included a medical check-up everyday, interrogation according to Supreme Court guidelines, and proper food.

ED officials send back kin of accused

Sharma’s mother and relatives of Gaur and Jaiswal reached the ED office, seeking time to meet them. However, officials said they were not allowed to meet the accused and asked them to leave.
