Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Legislator from Betul Hemant Khandelwal will take over as the BJP’s state unit president. Khandelwal was unanimously elected to the post on Tuesday.

Khandelwal filed his nominations in the presence of Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, union ministers Shivraj Singh Chouhan and Jyotiraditya Scindia and the party’s present state unit president VD Sharma.

State election in charge Dharmendra Pradhan is conducting the election process. The nominations of Khandelwal were filed in separate sets.

As, other than Khandelwal, nobody filed nominations for the post, he was elected unopposed. He will officially take over on Wednesday when the present president, VD Sharma, will get a farewell.

Free Press wrote several times that Khandelwal would be the BJP’s state president.

Khandelwal has been the choice of Yadav and the RSS. The names of several tribal leaders and women were doing the rounds for the post. But the central leadership finally approved Khandelwal’s name.

He came to politics through by-election in 2007

Hemant Khandelwal is the son of former MP Vijay Khandelwal. His political career began with the Lok Sabha by-election in 2007. After his father’s death, the BJP gave him a ticket for the by-election. He was elected MLA in 2013 and 2023. Khandelwal was BJP’s district unit president and treasurer.

Aspiring for ministerial berth, but becomes party’s state head

Hemant Khandelwal was aspiring for a ministerial berth, and his name was also doing the rounds for his induction into the cabinet. He missed the opportunity because of the caste equation. But he is lucky to have been elected the party’s state president.
