Gwalior (Madhya Pradesh): A Gwalior district court, on Wednesday, has sentenced a man to life imprisonment for sexually assaulting his minor niece, leading to her pregnancy.
Additionally, a fine of ₹1 lakh was imposed on him. The court also ordered a compensation of ₹5 lakh to be paid to the survivor and her child.
The court termed the offence a serious breach of familial trust and said no leniency can be shown in the matter, citing the seriousness of the incident.
According to case details, the incident came to light in May 2024 when the minor was taken to Murar District Hospital after showing signs of advanced pregnancy. Medical reports confirmed she was 7-months pregnant.
Upon asking, the girl revealed that she had been repeatedly assaulted by her paternal uncle, who had been living with her family since 2019 after his wife's death. The convict is originally from of Saujana village in Tighra and has 3 children
Accused also threatened for harming victim’s family
The accused, who worked as a labourer, also allegedly threatened the girl of harming her family if she disclosed the abuse.
An FIR was registered at Girwai police station under Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. He was arrested shortly thereafter.
After a detailed hearing, the court sentenced the convict to life imprisonment till natural death.
