Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The state government is planning to fill around 27,000 posts spread across 53 departments this year. In all, 1,02,601 posts are vacant in these departments.

Meanwhile, reforms proposed in the Madhya Pradesh Public Service Commission (MPPSC) exam rule 2025 and the Employees Selection Board (ESB) envisage the merging of various exams to bring down their number.

Information from the General Administration Department (GAD) shows that out of a total of 1,02601 vacant posts, the School Education Department has the highest, 26,210 vacant posts, followed by the Home Department (20,470 vacancies).

Vacancies in the other departments include: 9,180 in the Urban Development and Housing Department, 7,151 in the Technical Education, Skill Development and Employment Department, 7,069 in Higher Education, 4,678 in Energy Department, 3,815 in the Forest Department, 3,312 in the Panchayat and Rural Department, 2,294 in the Farmer Welfare and Agriculture Development, and 2,267 in the Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department.

If category-wise vacant posts are analysed, there are 28,143 vacancies in the unreserved category, 14,989 in SC, 26,556 in ST, 24,225 in OBC, and 8,688 in the EWS category.

Amendments in MPPSC & ESB exam pattern

The process is underway for comprehensive amendments in the Employees Selection Board (ESB) and the MP Public Service Commission (PSC). Currently, the ESB holds exams of 12 sub-groups and other special exams.

The amendment proposes a merger of 30 exams and the conduct of only four exams. The proposed exams would be the joint postgraduate exam, joint graduate exam, joint higher secondary exam, and joint uniformed exam.  Likewise, amendments have also been proposed in exams conducted by the MPPSC.

Under this, only five types of exams would be conducted. Their names are: State Service Exam cum State Forest Service Exam, Engineering Eligibility Group, Higher Education Group, Joint Graduate Group, and Joint Post Graduate Group.
