Jabalpur (Madhya Pradesh): Chief Minister Mohan Yadav on Thursday inaugurated the modern revenue record room where land records are kept at the district Collectorate.

In his address to a function held at the Collectorate, Yadav said District Collector Deepak Saxena has taken innovative step to discontinue the practice of keeping the land records in red cloth since British period.

He lauded the efforts of the district administration for introducing the modern methods to preserve the land records.

As per the new system of preserving the old land revenue records, the cloth is replaced with plastic boxes.

Each plastic box was color-coded according to the tehsil. The details of the case, such as village-wise, year-wise, and subject-wise information, were printed on stickers and affixed to the plastic boxes.

The record room was made air-conditioned. Every rack and its shelf were given a unique number.

The plastic boxes kept on each shelf and the cases kept in plastic sheets within the boxes were coded.

The land revenue records are available from 1909-10 in the Collectorate, which can now be easily accessed through computers. This will eliminate any difficulty in obtaining copies of revenue records.

The revenue officials expect the lifespan of the land records has increased by 25-50 years. The atmosphere is now similar to a bank's locker room. The records are safe and on single click on computer the record of any year or month can be traced.
