Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): MP Governor Mangubhai Patel, considered close to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, is completing four years in office on Tuesday.
A resident of Navsari in Gujarat, he is one of the most powerful governors. Patel has toured the entire state twice in the past four years. There are several districts in the state where tribal people live. Patel toured these places more than four times.
Most of the projects of the Tribal Welfare Department are run from Raj Bhawan. A tribal cell has been set up in Raj Bhawan where many decisions on the welfare of tribal people are taken.
Governors being the chancellor of universities generally control the higher education department. But Patel also controls the Tribal Welfare Department and holds meetings with the ministers and officers over the issues related to the tribal people.
Patel has launched a campaign against sickle cell disease found among the tribal people.
He has been working to control the disease and has included Modi in the awareness campaign. When Patel was ST welfare minister in Gujarat, he launched the campaign against sickle cell disease.
He is carrying out the campaign in MP, too. It is because of his campaign that 76 lakh screening cards have been distributed among the tribal people to keep them safe from the disease.
Patel is visiting the tribal villages and raising awareness about how to remain safe from sickle cell disease. He set up a big team to deal with the disease. The team is identifying the patients down with sickle cell disease and trying to curb it.
Identifying sickle cell patients just by their appearance
An event was underway in Raj Bhawan where many people were present. The governor saw a girl and called her near him. Then he directed someone close to him to get the blood of the girl examined.
As soon as Patel saw the girl, he understood that she was down with sickle cell disease.
The blood report proved that he was right. Afterwards, arrangements were made for her treatment. Whenever Patel finds sickle cell patients, he helps them. He continuously studies sickle cell. His purpose is to provide relief to the tribal people from a fatal ailment like sickle cell disease in the coming days.
