Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The government is set to change the names of the Hamidia Hospital, named after Nawab Hamidullah, colleges and schools.

The proposal for changing the names, passed by Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), has reached the commissioner. Now, the proposal will go to the government through the commissioner for a decision on the matter.

According to sources, the government has agreed with the BMC council’s proposal. Once the proposal reaches the government, the name, Hamidia, associated with certain institutions will be removed.

Chief Minister Mohan Yadav has principally agreed with the proposal put forth by the chairman of the BMC council, Kishan Suryawanshi, for changing the name of Hamidia.

Yadav also said Hamidullah wanted to merge Bhopal with Pakistan. He recently said the Nawab had deposited money in a bank in Pakistan. Yadav’s statement made it clear that all the organisations named after Nawab Hamidullah will be changed.

The government will take a decision on what should be the changed name of these institutions. The Congress is protesting against the proposal, and party legislator Arif Masood objected to it.

Despite the Congress’ protests, the name will be changed. Earlier, the government changed the name of Habibganj railway station to Rani Kamalapati railway station.

Apart from the railway station, the name of Nasrullaganj has been changed to Bherunda and that of Islamnagar to Jagdishpur. The government has changed several other Muslim names.
