Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): In a bid to address the issue of waterlogging in the Alpana Tiraha area of Hamidia Road, the Public Works Department (PWD) will construct a nullah from Alpana Tiraha to Bharat Talkies.
The area, located near Platform No. 6 of Bhopal Railway Station, experiences heavy water accumulation during the monsoon.
The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) will also clean the railway nullah that runs from Platform No. 6 to Platform No. 1. The decision comes following an inspection by Bhopal MP Alok Sharma, who reviewed the water submergence conditions in the area on Sunday.
Sharma while talking to Free Press said that PWD will construct a separate nullaha from Alpana Tiraha to Bharat Talkies to ensure proper drainage of rainwater. The civic body will also undertake cleaning of Railway nullaha that passes from platform no-6 to platform number 1, the Parliamentarian.
Nine railway tracks run across the nullah and hence the Railways have to widen and clean it to ensure proper exit of the rainwater and sewage. Moreover, a drainage project from Alpana Tiraha to Bharat Talkies is underway to channel rainwater to the Patra Nullah.
Earlier, the PWD had constructed a new cement concrete (CC) road from Alpana Tiraha to Bhopal Talkies to address waterlogging issues on Hamidia Road . The stretch experiences severe waterlogging even after a brief spell of rain.
MP Sharma held discussion over nullah construction with DRM Devashish Tripathi, Collector Kaushalendra Vikram Singh and Bhopal Municipal Corporation Commissioner Harendra Narain.
District collector has directed the PWD officials to submit an estimate for the construction of the nullah within three days. PWD and railway officials are also preparing an MoU for the construction of the nullah.
