Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Waking from slumber after the tragic mishap at Banganga Crossing on Monday morning causing death of a BAMS intern, the joint teams of Traffic Police and Transport Department launched a massive checking drive on Tuesday.
The joint teams of both departments carried out intensive checking of heavy vehicles especially school buses at 19 places across the city.
The transport department carried out a separate drive on Raisen Road and Hoshangabad Road where over 40 school vans and buses were checked.
Joint teams under DCP Traffic Sanjay Singh launched checking drive at Board Office, Ganesh Temple, Polytechnic Crossing, Raisen Road, Bhadbhada, VIP Road and other main crossings. The checking focused on school vehicles engaged in ferrying students.
DCP Traffic Sanjay Singh said 410 buses were checked during the drive on Tuesday. Among them action has been taken against 126 buses under Motor Vehicles Act.
The drive will continue till May 31, he added. Meanwhile, transport officials said that over 40 vehicles including school buses were checked on Raisen Road and Hoshangabad Road on Tuesday and four of them have been seized as their fitness have expired.
Traffic dept sends suggestion for flyover
Keeping in view of frequent mishaps at Banganga Crossing, the traffic department has sent a suggestion for a flyover from Banganga Crossing to Polytechnic Crossing besides five other spots. Traffic officials said that traffic flow on the route is heavy and two blind spots increases possibilities of mishaps.
