Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Three women and two men in the city ended their lives on Wednesday night in separate incidents. A woman took the extreme step over alleged dowry harassment, another was distressed over her illness, and the third, who was separated from her husband, had been living alone.
Case one
A newly married woman committed suicide by hanging herself allegedly after being subjected to dowry harassment by her husband. The woman’s mother said that she committed suicide only 12 days before her first marriage anniversary. Further investigations were underway, police said.
Resident of Udia Basti, Kajal Gupta (21) hanged herself in her room late Wednesday night. She was married to auto driver Monu Gupta in March last year. No suicide note was found in her room but Kajal’s mother Neetu alleged that Monu was harassing her over dowry since their marriage. Kajal’s parents recently purchased a mobile for Monu and now he was pressuring her for a bike. She said that her daughter had called her in the afternoon and informed that she was upset over the issue.
Case two
Meanwhile, in another incident, a woman Pragati Sahu (28) hanged herself in her house in Bilkhiriya area on Wednesday night. Her husband Monu Sahu brought her down and took her to Hamidia Hospital where she was declared dead on arrival. He informed police that his wife was suffering from migraine for the past many years and was upset over her illness.
Case three
In yet another incident, a woman consumed some poisonous substance and ended her life on Wednesday in Itkhedi. Her kin informed that Aarti Kushwaha (24) was living alone after her husband left her. She used to work in a self help group.
Jilted lover ends life
A 22-year-old man hanged herself in his home at Siyarkala village under Nazirabad police station on Wednesday night. No suicide note was found from the spot but his kin said that the youth was upset over his failed love affair. The deceased has been identified as Srijesh Ahirwar.
Man hangs self
In another incident, a 40-year-old man Rakesh Sakya hanged himself in his home at Rahul Nagar under Kamla Nagar police station on Wednesday night. No suicide note was found at the spot and reasons behind the incident were still not known, police said.
