Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): A case of food-poisoning was reported from an Anganwadi centre in Bhopal’s Berasia area on Wednesday, where the health of 7 children deteriorated after consuming the mid-day meal.

The children are said to be in the age group of 3 to 5 years old, who were rushed to hospital after they started suffering from vomiting and diarrhea.

According to information, the matter pertains to Ijgiri village. On Wednesday afternoon, six children were admitted to Berasia’s Community Health Center, and one was referred to Hamidia Hospital in Bhopal for further treatment.

64 children were served the same food

The children, who attended the village Anganwadi center, had dal-roti and lapsi for their mid-day meal. Shortly after eating, they began experiencing symptoms such as vomiting and diarrhea. After the incident, a total of 64 children were screened as a precaution as all of them were served the same food.

At present, all the children are said to be in stable condition. The affected children were identified as Kirtika (4), Naira (3), Vaishali (4), Virat (5), Pari (5), Prince (4) and Rishabh (4).

4-year-old transferred to Hamidia hospital

Collector Kaushlendra Vikram Singh stated that all affected children are now in stable condition and have been kept under observation at the hospital as a precaution.

However, out of the seven children, Prince (4) was transferred to Hamidia Hospital for further treatment.

The Food Safety Department is also investigating the incident. Samples of the food were collected for testing. The tiffins containing the mid-day meal have been taken to Berasia for examination to determine if food contamination was the cause of the illness.

Further investigations are underway.
