Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Fed up of torture and harassment, a retired BHEL official’s second wife who was half his age got her husband murdered with the help of her tenant and her boyfriend.
The trio cooked up a story that the aged man died of a mishap but post-mortem report spilled the beans. Piplani police on Saturday cracked the case after 20 days and arrested the trio following their confession.
In-charge Piplani police station Anurag Lal said police received a call from the doctor of a private hospital on April 18, informing that one George Kurian (65), a resident of Patel Nagar was brought in an injured condition by his wife Bitti Kurian.
However, George was declared brought dead on arrival. Bitti Kurian in her initial statement informed police that her husband received injuries as his feet slipped inside the washroom.
The incident took a dramatic turn when post-mortem report revealed that George Kurian died of strangulation. Sub-Inspector Santosh Raghuvanshi said Bitti’s call details revealed that she spoke to Rekha and one Sanjay Pathak several times before and after George Kurian’s death.
The trio was rounded up for questioning during which they confessed to killing George for separate reasons. It came to the fore that earlier Sanjay had attacked George from behind on his head. George suffered from blurry vision due to injuries.
Bitti Kurian and Rekha left the main gate of the house open at night on April 18. Bitti put eye drop in George’s eyes and requested him to sleep. Sanjay assaulted George on his head with a heavy object and then strangulated him. Rekha and Bitti cleaned blood on the floor with bedsheets to hide any evidence at the crime spot.

Kurien had no child from first wife
Retired senior official at BHEL and originally hailing from Kerala, George Kurian had no child from his first wife. Bitti’s father was also an employee at BHEL and George often used to visit his home. During his visits he lured Bitti who was 18 at that time and proposed her of marriage. Bitti’s parents agreed for their marriage after George purchased a flat in her name. George’s first wife left him and returned to Kerala after his second marriage. George and Bitti had a daughter who is now nine years old. Bitti claimed that George was abusive and even tried to strangulate her twice.
George used abusive words
Insurance adviser Rekha Suryvanshi, a widow was living on rent at George’s house for past six months and was helped by him in a property-related dispute. However, George used to object on her relationship with Sanjay Pathak, an RTO agent.
George had used abusive language against Pathak and threatened to kidnap his daughter which enraged him. On Rekha’s suggestion Bitti agreed to give Rs 10 lakh to Sanjay in return of killing her husband and paid Rs 2.50 lakh as advance.
George claimed to remain alive 5 hrs post death
Bitti informed police that George used to say that he will be alive five hours after his death. Believing this statement, Bitti took George to the hospital five hours after he was dead following an assault by Sanjay Pathak. SI Santosh Raghuvanshi said that crime scene was recreated to get more clues regarding the incident as the accused attempted to mislead police during questioning.
