Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): The team of National Human Rights Commission on Thursday reviews the ongoing investigation into the rape and blackmailing of private college girls in Bhopal.
The team met the victims and also the police officials carrying out investigation in the case. In all five FIRs have been registered in connection with the cases in Bag Sewania, Aishbagh, Ashoka Garden and Jehangirabad police stations.
The panel also asked police to ensure action against operators of Club 90, the hangout of the accused involved in the case. Although the administration has demolished the club, no FIR has been registered against those operating the club.
The three-member team, headed by NHRC member Priyank Kanungo, reviewed the investigations being carried out against the prime accused and his aides for allegedly sexually assaulting and blackmailing girls from a private college using their private videos.
The team advised investigators to include additional points in their probe and urged them to build a strong case against the accused to ensure they receive capital punishment for the crimes.
Kanungo stated that the team also visited the college and collected information regarding the accused who had studied there. The NHRC instructed the college administration to ensure the safety of girl students and to take action on their complaints.
Kanungo in his post on X questioned the police for not taking appropriate action against those running the Club 90, where the prime accused Farhan Khan used to take the victims. He said that the Club, located near the college, was a hangout of criminals involved in the case.
However, on receiving the notice from NHRC the administration demolished the hotel but failed to collect any forensic evidence from the site before razing it down. Besides, no FIR has been registered against the persons operating the hotel, he added.
He also uploaded a video of Club 90 showing cabins at the hotel equipped with beds and other facilities. It is alleged that the students and other couples were provided private cabins in return of hefty cash.
