Bhopal: Posh Colonies Too Brace For Bumpy Monsoon; BMC Blames Pre-Monsoon Rain For Bad Roads |

Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Even residents of posh colonies in Bhopal will not be spared from the ordeal of poor road conditions this rainy season.

The roads inside residential colonies, as well as service lanes — especially along Hoshangabad Road — are in pathetic condition, and the situation is unlikely to improve before the monsoon sets in.

The Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC), which is responsible for maintaining these roads, has not carried out substantial repair work this summer. The road construction and maintenance work has come to a halt due to ongoing pre-monsoon rain, while the monsoon is expected between June 10 and June 15.

Despite repeated demands from residents for repairs under the guarantee period, BMC’s inaction has left many feeling frustrated and helpless.

Residents’ concern

Sunil Upadhayaya, president of New Colonies Welfare Association, said, “For the last three years, service lanes have not been repaired. Their condition has deteriorated badly. Now that the monsoon is expected by June 15, there’s no scope for any road repair in colonies along Hoshangabad Road. Residents will have to suffer in the rainy season.”

‘Missed opportunity’

Priyanath Pathak, president of DK Devsthali Residents Association, said, “BMC missed the opportunity. It should have repaired service lanes before the monsoon arrived. But now, residents have no other option but to face the brunt of these pathetic roads.”

Trying our best: BMC chairman

Kishan Suryavanshi, chairman of BMC, said:“As rain activities are going on, road construction work has come to a standstill in Bhopal. However, BMC is trying its level best to carry out repairs and construction of service lanes and colony roads, which prominently fall under BMC’s jurisdiction.”

BMC commissioner promises action

Harendra Narayan, commissioner of BMC, said:“BMC has given instructions for repairing roads that are still under their guarantee period. For those which are not under guarantee, BMC will ensure both construction and repair work is done before monsoon arrival.”
