Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Self-styled godman Vairagyanand Giri, known as Mirchi Baba, have joined Samajwadi Party and may contest election from Budhni, a bastion of Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, said the party sources on Monday.
A photograph was circulated on social media through a state party worker, in which Baba was seen with the SP national president, Akhilesh Yadav. The party worker Yash Bhartiya said the Baba has joined the party and will contest the election from a ‘special’ constituency.
The party is keeping the constituency secret, but the sources claimed the Baba may contest the election from Budhni. Earlier, the Congress has fielded TV actor Hanuman, Vikram Mastal from the party.
The Baba came to limelight when he performed ‘Mirchi-Yagya’ in favor of former chief minister Digvijaya Singh who was contesting the Lok Sabha election. The Baba claimed the Congress leader will register a historic win in the election.
But in reality, the BJP candidate registered a historic win. In 2022, he again hit and headlines when he was arrested by the police for allegedly raping a woman. Later in the month of September this year, the Bhopal Court acquitted him from the charges.
