Satna (Madhya Pradesh): A Nirbhaya-like incident in the Maihar area of Satna district, where two youths gangraped a 12-year-old girl and inserted a stick in her private parts, has rocked Madhya Pradesh.

The condition of the girl, who is undergoing treatment at Rewa Medical College, is serious, the police said on Friday.

The police have arrested the accused.

The youths, who were working for the management committee of a temple trust, took the girl to a wooded area on a hillock in the afternoon on Thursday and gangraped her, according to police officials.

The committee has terminated their services.

Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan took to Twitter to express his anguish. “I am distressed. Instructions have been given to the administration to make arrangements for proper treatment of the victim. Strict action will be taken against the accused,” he wrote.

MPCC president Kamal Nath expressed anguish. “The incident of rape of a small girl in Maihar is highly condemnable. The best treatment should be provided to the victim and she should be given financial assistance of Rs1 crore immediately,” he said.
