BHOPAL: Chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, expressing concern over female foeticide, has said that the number of baby girls born into poor families is higher than into rich families.

Chouhan was addressing in a felicitation programme on Wednesday, organised by BJP Mahila Morcha on his 11 years in power.

Chouhan urged Mahila Morcha members to pay more attention to checking female foeticide. He said special attention should be paid in cities. Chouhan said the number of baby girls is lower in prosperous families. He said he and his wife, Sadhna Singh have decided to get marriages of girls solemnised.

Chouhan said he would never become a burden on his post as he has become chief minister to do works of public welfare. He said two lakh women will be linked to business through NGO convention. Camps will be held across the state to do medical check up of women. Government would provide treatment to ailing women. Chouhan said he would convene a meeting in Delhi on December 17 to bring top doctors in this camp. He said no party, other than BJP, has given respect to women. Chouhan said SCs and STs constitute 40 per cent of the population and Mahila Morcha has to outreach them.
