Bhopal (Madhya Pradesh): Patients can be airlifted from Barkatullah University (BU) to AII India Institutes of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in the city in three minutes flat, as a mock drill revealed on Thursday.

The mock drill, held against the backdrop of escalating Indo-Pak tensions, was conducted toairlift a patient from the BU helipad by PM Shri Air Ambulance Service which provides high levelmedical service in emergency. Before this, the air ambulance, which flew from Bhopal airport to BU, was landed and tested.

AIIMS is fully equipped for organ transplant and treatment of serious diseases. Patients referred from here have been lifted and sent for treatment through PM Shri Ambulance in the past as well.

Patients from other districts have also been brought to AIIMS for treatment. Due to the proximity of the BU helipad to AIIMS, a patient can be sent for treatment quickly and can also be sent outside, if required. This mock drill was organised with the aim of reducing the time taken to reach Bhopal airport.

PM Shri Air Ambulance Service reaches remote areas of the state in case of a medical emergency. It also fulfils the need for stabilising patients through advanced emergency medical treatment before airlifting them to higher medical centres.

Chief Medical and Health Officer (CMHO), Bhopal, Dr. Prabhakar Tiwari said, “The distance from AIIMS to Barkatullah University is about 3 kilometres. By creating a green corridor, this distance can be covered in 3-4 minutes. The mock drill was conducted with the objective of airlifting critical patients for treatment in minimum time.”
